Portraits in Motion was a collaborative project, where myself and 4 other MA students co-faciliated 6 workshops, with a group of participants from Lewisham and Southwark's Living and Learning Centre for over 65's.  Over 2 months, we designed and delivered interactive sessions centring filmmaking and performance, and collaborated with the group to create 6 pieces of work, which were framed as portraits within the exhibition, of some of the people we got to know and be creative with throughout our time there.

Portraits in Motion was exhibited at Central Saint Martins, in the White Lab in December 2024.

Facilitators: LJ, Rhiana Bonterre, Xinling Zhang, Miles Golby, Jack Tisdall

Mentors: Chuck Blue Lowry, Anna MacDonald.

Special thanks to Katrina and the team at Age UK Lewisham and Southwark.

This piece was featured next to an addtional video showing documentation of our time with Josephine, a participant who came to each of the 6 workshops we facilitated. Josephine always shared her love for the 1965 film The Sound of Music, often leading us in sing-alongs to songs fro the film; The Sound of Music and Do Re Mi. One thing she always insisted on was that we perform and sing together—never alone. This collective spirit, along with excerpts from our conversations with her about Maria, the character she spoke of so fondly, were woven into these two works.
